Armed Forces To Explore Africa And Round The Globe

KUCHING, Aug 26 (Bernama) — After braving the South China Sea in canoes, the Malaysian Armed Forces (ATM) now set their minds on exploring Africa and travelling round the world on a ship “Tunas Samudera” next year.

Deputy Defence Minister Datuk Zainal Abidin Zin said he would personally lead a 47-day expedition over 17,000 kilometres from Cape Town to Kuala Lumpur using the land route.

Another expedition, this time around the world in a ship “Tunas Samudera” would start from Poland next year. The crew for this expedition had been picked, he added.

“We want to prove to the world that members of the ATM are capable in all fields besides becoming soldiers,” he said to reporters here today.

Zainal Abidin said the ATM had proven that it could travel from London to Kuala Lumpur last year by land in 20 vehicles and seven high-powered motorcycles.

Meanwhile, the feat of 25 ATM members who canoed across the South China Sea from Tanjung Sedili, Johor to Tebingan, Kuching won them an entry into the Malaysia Book of Records.

They completed the 393 nautical-mile expedition in 18 days in unpredictable weather, today and were welcomed by Zainal Abidin upon arrival.

Also on hand to greet them was Armed Forces Chief, Admiral Tan Sri Mohd Anwar Mohd Nor.

Zainal Abidin said mental strength and team spirit enabled the expedition group to travel across the choppy sea until they reached their destination.

It seems though that our ATM, whose job is supposed to be standing by in case of any attacks (sounded like playing AOE game….) turns out to be doing just the opposite trying to show that they “Boleh” all around the world. What good if they really have to canoe themselves across the South China Sea from semenanjung!?! By the time they reach this side, land of the hornbills might become land of the Palmyra. I think they should ask Microsoft how AOE or better known as “Age of Empire” was made to make the peasants into army while asking them to canoe across the lake to attack some Palmyra in Rom. And what is this cape town thingy that is going to waste 47 man-days of their time doing R&R (Relaxations and Recreations) instead of their R&R (Roles and Responsibilities). Is the ATM playing real life AOE?!?
